Endoscopy procedure also called a gastroscopy, is conducted using a thin flexible tube called an endoscope, to examine the inner lining of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and upper small bowel (duodenum).

Colonoscopy is conducted where the doctor passes a thin tube through the anus to have a look at the thin lining of the large bowel (colon).

The colonoscope is then gently passed through the colon until it reaches the junction of the small and large intestines. Colonoscopy provides a diagnosis of many conditions of the colon.

Sigmoidoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure of the large intestine from the rectum through to the nearest part of the colon called the sigmoid colon.

Sigmoidoscopy is of two types- flexible sigmoidoscopy(which uses a flexible endoscope), and rigid sigmoidoscopy,(which uses a rigid device).
